The Thornbury Area Youth Music (formerly 'Thornbury Area Music Trust') is a charitable music trust (Registered Charity Number 1150923) set up by parents and volunteers in Thornbury, South Gloucestershire. The aim of the trust is to maintain and enhance collective youth music making in the South Gloucestershire and North Bristol area, and to promote excellence in music.
TAYM's key activity is in running Thornbury Area Music Centre, or 'TAMC'. This runs from 9.30am to 12pm on 9 Saturday sessions during term time. Thornbury Area Music Centre offers a range of activities for young musicians aged up to 18 of all abilities, including Senior and Junior wind groups, string ensembles and orchestras. There is also a choir, chamber ensemble coaching and opportunities for players to study for their grade 5 theory or practical musicianship examinations. There is also Thornbury Area Junior Music Centre for musicians aged 4-8 with musical activities aimed at that age group.
There is also the South Cotswold Youth Orchestra. This is a symphony orchestra aimed at instrumentalists who have reached a minimum standard of grade 5 (strings, wind, brass and percussion). The group meets for rehearsals over a 3-week period each term, presenting concerts of symphonic repertoire coached by professional musicians.
